Dear NEMO users,
With this message, we would like to bring your attention to this new initiative that we are launching for fostering the assessment of (sub)mesoscale processes in ocean models in the context of the SWOT altimeter mission.
This initiative is essentially a new model intercomparison project which intends to leverage SWOT ocean data for evaluating how different models compare in terms of several altimeter derived evaluation metrics.
We have set-up a workflow and defined a data request for the groups who would be interested to contribute. All this is operated openly from a dedicated GitHub repository : https://github.com/meom-group/swot-ocean-model-intercomparison-project
In practice, interested groups are invited to prepare virtual realizations of SWOT ocean data from their preferred ocean model and make this dataset available online. All the instructions are available in the GitHub repos, which also included dedicated interpolation tools
The exercise is open to any ocean model, global and regional models alike, with or without data assimilation. Groups are also welcome to contribute with data from neural emulators. The minimal conditions for participating are described on our GitHub repository.
We are looking forward to hearing from you ! Do not hesitate to contact us : https://github.com/meom-group/swot-ocean-model-intercomparison-project/issues/new?template=information-request-template.md
