Heat fluxes in NEMO and LIM 2

Hello,

I am very new to working with a reanalysis model and still trying to understand how everything is connected. I am using the GLORYS model on the ORCA grid, which uses the NEMO ocean model (something between version 3.1 to 3.6, if I understood it correctly).

I am wondering about the calculation of the heat fluxes in NEMO. While reading through the NEMO documentation and some papers who use the GLORYS model, it says that NEMO is driven at the surface by ERA-Interim analysis / ERA 5 analysis (dependent on the year) and that the momentum and heat turbulent fluxes are computed form the CORE bulk formulae ( Large and Yeager, 2004 / 2009, depending on the reference ). It also states that there are 8 input variables from ERA :

  • wind velocities at 10 m

  • air temperature at 10 m

  • specific humidity

  • incoming long/shortwave radiation and

  • solid + total precipitation

and the ice covered areas are covered by the sea ice model, which in this case is LIM 2, which then calculates the ice-ocean fluxes.

Does that mean NEMO uses the input variables and its own variables like SST, which is necessary to example calculate the sensible heat flux to calculate the heat fluxes ? Does anyone know where I find the exact equations they use to calculate the heat fluxes ?
