Dear All,
I am trying to run PISCES in a regional setting, with OBCs, and nutrient loads from runoff.
I found this files:
https://gws-access.jasmin.ac.uk/public/nemo/sette_inputs/index_v4.html#:~:text=wget%20%22https%3A%2F%2Fgws%2Daccess%2Ejasmin%2Eac%2Euk%2Fpublic%2Fnemo%2Fsette%5Finputs%2Fextras%2Fgh%5Fflux%5FLucazeau%2Dorca2%2Enc%22
Which were made for an ORCA2 setup. I do have however strong doubts regarding the unit.
The files say they are in milligrams / m2 / y. But I think it is possible they are in milligrams / y.
Anyone has experience with these files ?
Thanks in advance,
Robinson
Dear All, I’m writing down this here for the record after finding the solution. The file named “river.orca.nc” provided as nutrient input for ORCA2_ICE_PISCES has for unit mega-grams (i.e. tons)
per year. These are flux values, NOT flux density values, as stated in the unit of the file.
Hope this helps,

I don’t have any experience with these files, but indeed riverine BGC inputs usually are read as fluxes, not flux density values (unlike water runoff from rivers in kg/m²/s)
Yes, but the unit in the input files says it’s flux density. But it is flux and then inside the code it is divided by the area. Very confusing.
I agree. Every time I redo river forcings I recheck the units because they confuse me.
